Feeding Your Cavalier
Helping your dog to meet its proper nutritional requirements for correct development and health, is a very important topic of discussion.
I believe that if you ask 10 people what and/or how they feed their cavaliers,
you will get 10 different answers.
With that understanding we will address the subject;
below are a few of the puppy/dog kibbles that we use and recommend.
By Nature puppy
Eukanuba Small bite puppy
Evo small breed
Wellness puppy
Eagle Pack puppy
Kirkland puppy
The ultimate health of your dog is directly related to a good nutritional dog kibble. One that isn’t full of corn and other cheap fillers; “junk parts which are labeled by-products” (detailed explanations will offend even the toughest of us); chemicals and carcinogens; etc.. It is a vital part of caring for our dogs.
In addition to a good kibble, treats are a good addition as well. Make sure they aren’t full of empty calories and fillers.
We do give our dogs, not puppies, human food tidbits. It is a very personal decision/preference as to what treats, if any, your dog ( over 6 months of age please) will receive.
Your New Puppy
We ‘free feed’ our adults which means that there is always good dry kibble and fresh water available to them at all times. But, in the beginning it is advisable and recommended that you ‘batch feed’ your new puppy; feeding 4 times a day.
The reason being, controlling the input controls the output (poop).
You will want to feed in the morning (1st feeding), in the early evening (last feeding), and two times in between. You will put down the food and water and let puppy eat as much and they want, then pick up both when puppy is done.
About 15 minutes later take puppy outside and tell puppy to “Go potty”.
They are familiar with this command and if you follow the above advice dilligently for the first couple of weeks with your new canine companion, the odds of accidents are greatly reduced.
Also, take puppy potty immediately after waking from a nap; every 45 minutes while awake, and before you go to bed for the evening.
